The Sacramento Municipal Utility District Photovoltaic Project (SMUDPV) is the phased installation of a 100-MW /SUB ac/ Utility photovoltaic (PV) powerplant. The first increment (SMUDPV1) has a peak rating of 1.0-MW /SUB AC/ and is expected to produce 2.65 million KW-hr of energy per year. SMUDPV1 will cost $12 million and is jointly funded by the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD), the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), and the California Energy Commission. The second increment (SMUDPV2) has the same rating as SMUDPV1 but will cost $10.4 million and is jointly funded by SMUD and the DOE. Acurex Solar Corporation, as the architect and engineer, performed extensive design selection and optimization work, documented the designs and has supported the construction and startup activities of both phases. This document covers the design selection and optimization activities of the first 2 MW /SUB ac/ of the SMUDPV project.
