Title: Molecular and polymeric optoelectronic materials: Fundamentals and applications; Proceedings of the Meeting, San Diego, CA, Aug 21, 22, 1986

Conference ·
OSTI ID:6038713

The fundamental and theoretical aspects of organic nonlinear optical materials development, in particular the nonlinear and linear properties of organic and polymer systems, are discussed. Papers are presented on side chain liquid crystalline and rigid aromatic heteorcyclic polymers for nonlinear optics; the role of delocalized pi electrons in the nonlinear optical and electrical properties of polymers; reversible digital and holographic optical storge in polymeric liquid crystals; second-order optical effects in multilayer polymeric thin film; integrated Langmuir devices; and organic nonlinear materials for laser-electron beam generation. Consideration is given to nonlinear optical interactions in polymer thin films; optical nonlinearities in organic materials and nematic liquid crystals; two-photon absorption and nonlinear refraction in isotropic liquid crystals; third harmonic generation and molecular systematics; thin film processing of polymers for nonlinear optics; nonlinear optical interactions in devices with cylindrical geometry; third-order nonlinear guided-wave optics; the crystal growth of organic material and optical second harmonic generation in optical fiber; and optical waveguiding in polyimide II.
