Wyoming: the uranium industry. A manpower survey

Book ·
OSTI ID:6037614
The Wyoming Department of Labor and Statistics initiated a uranium mining and milling manpower survey in October 1977 with 4 goals: to enumerate the number of workers in selected occupations and appropriate skill levels; to determine the average hourly wages in each occupation and skill level; to estimate the percentage of union affiliated workers in each occupation and skill level; and to survey the hourly dollar contributions to employees' fringe benefits. Seven uranium mining and milling companies provided data on occupations in three general groups: shaft mine, strip mine, and processing plant. Wyoming has proven reserves of 308 million tons of ore or 216,5000 tons of U/sub 3/O/sub 8/ which amounts to about 32% of the proven U.S. reserves at a rate of $30 per pound of U/sub 3/O/sub 8/. Wyoming also possesses 42.7% of the U.S. capacity for processing uranium ore into yellow cake. A map of the location of mines and processing plants is given. (MCW)
