Applying Allison 570 gas turbines

Journal Article · · Diesel Gas Turbine Prog. Worldwide; (United States)
OSTI ID:6036612
The first integrated combined-cycle turbine compressor package in the 8000-hp range for pipeline service has been manufactured. This application features the 7000-hp Allison 570-K turbine driving a Delaval compressor that is also driven, on the opposite end, by a geared steam turbine. With a fuel rate of 8473 Btu/hp-hr, the 570 is one of the most fuel-efficient gas turbines in its power class. Even at part load, the 570's heat rate is virtually unchanged because of its 13-stage axial flow compressor with its six stages of variable geometry. When the turbine exhaust is used to supply shaft power, the overall thermal efficiency of the compressor drive system is 42%.
