The intrinsic form of an elliptical galaxy in space can be ascertained by observing whether its rotation axis coincides with its apparent minor axis, and whether its isophotes are coaxial. An application of these tests to observations presently available suggests that two kinds of elliptical galaxies may exist: oblate spheroids and triaxial ellipsoids.
