Spent fuel storage and isolation

Journal Article · · Proceedings of the Symposium on Waste Management
OSTI ID:60258
The U.S. policy to defer reprocessing has led to short-term storage of spent fuel from commercial light water reactors in water pools. As the storage capacity of such pools will soon be exceeded, studies have been intensified for longer-term storage and ultimate disposal. Studies conducted by Rockwell Hanford Operations are hereby reviewed: a simulated drywell experiment; the Nevada test site demonstration; and the receiving and packaging facility conceptual design. 5 refs.
