Study of the. cap alpha. decay of highly excited states of deformed nuclei by means of (n,. cap alpha. ) reactions

Journal Article · · Sov. J. Nucl. Phys. (Engl. Transl.); (United States)
OSTI ID:6023691
Total ..cap alpha.. widths in (n,..cap alpha..) reactions have been measured for the deformed nuclei /sup 151/Eu, /sup 155,157/Gd, /sup 171/Yb, /sup 177/Hf, and /sup 187,189/Os. The experimental data are compared with calculations using the cluster model. The influence of deformation on the ..cap alpha..-decay probability and the enhancement of ..cap alpha.. transitions to excited states of the daughter nucleus as compared with transitions to the ground state are discussed.
