Denmark prepares for natural gas

Denmark will import natural gas from the German Ruhrgas network to reduce its dependence on oil, although oil will continue to be the major energy source. A national program of energy conservation includes conversion of oil-fired power statons to either coal or to a co-generation system with district heating and the increased use of gas to supply more of the space-heating and industrial-process market. The district-heating network is not expected to expand after Danish natural gas from the North Sea is introduced in 1984, but customers within each network will increase. Supply and underground-storage plans for natural gas are described.
