Natural gas is a relatively new form of energy in Denmark, in contrast to most other European countries. In 1979 the Danish Parliament decided that natural gas would be introduced in Denmark, beginning in 1982 with deliveries from West Germany. Gas from the Danish fields in the North Sea would be received by 1984. The targets established in 1979 for start of operation in 1982 and 1984 were met. The construction of the Danish transmission system was carried out within the originally estimated time schedule and budget. The organization of the gas supply is discussed in this paper.
