In 1984 in offshore Louisiana, 1145 wells were drilled, an increase of 137 wells from 1983. The overall success rate increased to 63.9% in 1984 from 62.5% in 1983. At Federal Lease Sale 81 on April 1984, $2.13 billion was bid on 529 leases by 80 companies. The total of accepted winning birds on 452 tracts (2,272,369 ac) was $1.32 billion.
