Over the past several years, a substantial number of cogeneration projects were developed during a time when there were few utility projects. From those cogeneration projects have come advancements which offer benefits both for plant economics and for the environment. This paper provides two such projects which demonstrate several of these advancements: Coal combustion using circulating fluidized bed boiler (CFB) technology by two manufacturers. Application of a reheat cycle to a coal fueled cogeneration plant. Application of selective noncatalytic nitrous oxide (NO{sub x}) reduction (Thermal DeNO{sub x}) to a CFB project.
