Protecting nuclear facilities

Nuclear-plant security is a top-priority consideration. A new array of sophisticated perimeter-monitoring and access-control electronic systems assists security guards in apprehending intruders and in barring entrance to unauthorized persons who might be intent on stealing nuclear materials or on plant sabotage. The human element of the security safeguards must comprise highly trained, intelligent, and motivated personnel to function with the ultrasensitive devices within the plant's defensive perimeter.
