This paper examines Amoco's design and performance practices vis-a-vis the MHF stimulation of the James Gas Unit Well No. 1, into which 3,352,500 lb. of proppant was pumped. It presents the pump schedule and an aerial photograph of the treatment layout showing fluid and proppant storage bins and pumping equipment arrangement. Surface treating pressures, injection rates, pump time and sand concentrations are presented. The conclusion is that large MHF stimulations with high sand concentrations and moderate gel concentrations can be pumped with a high degree of success, provided treatment design is consistent with formation parameters and characteristics of boundary layers.
