Bechtel had taken some initial steps in standardization when AEC announced its standard-design policy in 1972. Bechtel completed its Generic Modular Power Plant concept and prepared a presentation of its Generic Standardization Program. The plan was discussed with AEC in 1973 and 1974. The program had 6 key elements: criteria definition, criteria application, licensing, basic-systems design, physical layout, and procurement. A summary overview of the firm's approach to both coal-fired and nuclear standardization is presented. Bechtel is gearing for design and construction services on all continents. It offers a generic 570-MW coal-fired power plant, and nuclear units in varying capacity. (MCW)
