Use of photovoltaic cells as part of a solar domestic hot water system

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:6008750

A photovoltaic power source was used to drive a dc pump in a 2 panel, 66 gal solar domestic hot water solar system. This project demonstrated the potential for solar electrical generation in a potentially broad practical application. The pv was mounted between the flat plate collectors so that when the sun heated the flat plates, the sun would activate the pv and run the pump. A mechanical time lapse indicator was added to measure circulation time and a flow meter measured the rate of flow in the closed loop of the solar system.
