Versatile Data Acquisition System Model II user's manual

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:6006128
This document details the installation, use, and operation of a portable data acquisition system. The system provides a means of acquiring detailed test data in applications where limited space is available, the operating environment is harsh, and unattended operation is desirable. It combines the design of hardware and menu driven software for data acquisition in a variety of applications. The system was designed for electric vehicle performance testing but has the versatility to be used in many applications. Performance parameters can be measured during over the road driving with data stored on an IBM-PC compatible disk. Data may then be reduced and analyzed using any of several commercially available software programs. This data acquisition system was designed to meet the following objectives: (1) Light compact construction for easy installation in space limited applications, (2) Ruggedized construction, (3) Powdered by a 12 volt battery, (4) Sufficient data storage for several days of unattended data acquisition, (5) Versatility with respect to the types of measurement sensors that can be utilized, (6) Ease of system setup and operation using menu driven software. In the preferred form the system consists of a battery powered data acquisition logging and processing unit (the actual Versatile Data Acquisition System enclosure) and a number of remote sensors. A keyboard and portable monitor can be connected to the system for on-line monitoring of data or modifications to the software setup procedures. 18 figs.
