Cubic ReO/sub 3/-type W/sub 1-x/Ta/sub x/O/sub 3-x/2/ and W/sub 1-x/Nb/sub x/O/sub 3-x/2/

Journal Article · · J. Solid State Chem.; (United States)

New types of compounds in the systems W/sub 1-x/Ta/sub x/O/sub 3-x/2/ and W/sub 1-x/Nb/sub x/O/sub 3-x/2/ were obtained from thermal decomposition of Ta- (or Nb-) doped peroxo-polytungstic acids at 750-900/degrees/C in air. The compounds were cubic with the ReO/sub 3/-type structure when x greater than or equal to 0.2 for the Ta system and x greater than or equal to 0.26 for the Nb system. However they were tetragonal at x approx. 0.1. Observed densities and X-ray intensities indicated that these compounds had oxygen vacancies.
