Draft strategy for OCRWM to provide training assistance to state, tribal, and local governments
The United States Department of Energy's (DOE) Office of Civilian Radioactive Waste Management has prepared this draft Strategy for parties with an interest in spent nuclear fuel and high-level radioactive waste transportation activities. The purpose of the Strategy is to inform the public what steps DOE will take to ultimately develop an implementation plan to provide funding and technical assistance to States and Indian Tribes as required by Section 180(c) of the Nuclear Waste Policy Act, as amended. A schedule of when the steps will take place is included. A preliminary draft of this Strategy was made available at the Transportation Coordination Group (TCG) meeting in Albuquerque, New Mexico, December 1990. The current version of the draft Strategy reflects changes resulting from both verbal comments received at the above-mentioned meeting and written comments submitted by interested groups. It also contains modifications pursuant to the passage of the Hazardous Materials Transportation Uniform Safety Act of 1990. The preliminary draft contained several appendices that were designed to identify and acknowledge the wide body of materials available to support resolution of the issues, and to stimulate discussion at the TCG meeting. The appendices have been omitted from the draft Strategy.
