Coherent anti-Stokes Raman spectroscopy is used to examine the rotational and vibrational state distributions in HBr and H/sub 2/ molecules excited by collisions with translationally hot H atoms produced by ArF laser photolysis of HBr. CARS detection of Br atoms and of rovibrationally excited H/sub 2/ produced by the H+HBr reaction is demonstrated for the first time.
