We have analyzed CTa interactions at 4.2 GeV/c per nucleon with production of ..lambda.. and K/sup 0/ particles. In these events a charged-particle multiplicity about 1.5 times greater than in all inelastic CTa events is observed. The increase of in CTa events with a V/sup 0/ is due to the fact that in them on the average 1.4 +- 0.1 times more nucleons from the incident carbon nucleus interact with the Ta nucleus. No substantial increase of the strange-particle yield relative to the ..pi../sup -/-meson yield is observed in CTa collisions in comparison with the corresponding ratios for interactions of light nuclei (..cap alpha..+/sup 6/Li). Distributions of ..lambda.. and K/sup 0//sub S/ particles in y/sub lab/ and p/sub perpendicular/ are given.
