Theory for the complete photodisintegration of /sup 4/He in a hyperspherical basis

A theory is derived for the complete photodisintegration of /sup 4/He on the basis of four-particle hyperspherical functions. The interaction between the reaction products in the final state is the governing factor; it suppresses the single-particle mechanism for ..gamma.. absorption. The two-nucleon mechanism for ..gamma.. absorption is the primary mechanism for the complete photodisintegration of /sup 4/He. A satisfactory explanation is found for the experimental data available on the reaction ..gamma..+/sup 4/He..-->..p+P+n+n.
