Title: Electrical properties of single crystals of solid solutions in the system HfO/sub 2/-M/sub 2/O/sub 3/ (M = Sc, Y, rare earths)

Our studies of the total electrical conductivity of single crystals of the solid solutions in the systems HfO/sub 2/-Ln/sub 2/O/sub 3/, where Ln = Y, Yb, in the region of 10-33 mole % Ln/sub 2/O/sub 3/ showed that the conductivity decreases as the content of the stabilizing oxide grows. Among single crystals of solid solutions of composition 85 mole % HfO/sub 2/ + 15 mole % Ln/sub 2/O/sub 3/ (Ln = Sc, Y, Gd, Tb, Er, Yb) samples containing scandium oxide have the highest conductivity (by a factor of 2-3).
