Ideas and subjects discussed at an EPRI/NSF meeting on electrochemistry at Asilomar Conference Center, Pacific Grove, California, in December of 1990 are contained in this Proceedings. The subjects addressed covered electrochemical synthesis and included the following topics: an assay of the importance of electrochemical processing to society, a review of fundamentals of synthesis, a review of cell components, a discussion of the considerations necessary to development of an electrochemical synthesis system, and a consideration of various applications. A list of recommended subjects considered as of first priority is presented. Sixteen papers prepared as introductory talks are presented in the appendix.
