Direct and indirect [ital CP] violation in the decay [ital K][sub [ital L]][r arrow][pi][sup +][pi][sup [minus]][ital e+][ital e[minus]]

The decay [ital K][sub [ital L]][r arrow][pi][sup +][pi][sup [minus]][ital e+][ital e[minus]] is analyzed in a model containing (i) a [ital CP]-conserving amplitude associated with the [ital M]1 transition in [ital K][sub [ital L]][r arrow][pi][sup +][pi][sup [minus]][gamma], (ii) an indirect [ital CP]-violating amplitude related to the bremsstrahlung part of [ital K][sub [ital L]][r arrow][pi][sup +][pi][sup [minus]][gamma], and (iii) a direct [ital CP]-violating term associated with the short-distance interaction [ital s[bar d]][r arrow][ital e][sup +][ital e[minus]]. Interference of the first two components produces a large [ital CP]-violating asymmetry ([similar to]14%) in the distribution of the angle [Phi] between the [ital e][sup +][ital e[minus]] and [pi][sup +][pi][sup [minus]] planes. The full angular distribution contains two further [ital CP]-violating observables. Effects of direct [ital CP] violation are found to be numerically small.
