Recording of Cerenkov radiation by a wire chamber operating in the self-quenched streamer mode

Journal Article · · Instrum. Exp. Tech. (Engl. Transl.); (United States)

A wire chamber that operates in the self-quenched streamer mode is described. The chamber can record individual photons of Cerenkov radiation produced by motion of beta particles in an LiF crystal. The efficiency of photon recording for wavelengths of 140-160 nm as measured by a multistage proportional chamber and an FEU-142 is 32%.
