The coordinate characteristics of a wire chamber that registers photons of Cerenkov radiation are studied. The chamber operates in the high-current mode with a mixture of CH/sub 4/ + 7.5% triethylamine. The coordinate was measured along the signal wire by the charge-division method and transverse to it by the electron drift time. The space resolutions of the detector were 4.5 and 1.5 mm, respectively. It was found that the simultaneous existence of streamer and Geiger mechanisms was possible in the high-current mode, which was confirmed by direct photography of the discharge.
