A VMEbus based, real time sorter design for positron emission tomography

Conference · · IEEE Trans. Nucl. Sci.; (United States)
OSTI ID:5965106
A real time sorter (RTS) design for a family of PET systems is described. Five custom VMEbus printed circuit boards (PCB) used in conjunction with a 68000 single board computer, megabytes of conventional VMEbus memory, and other peripherals form the RTS. Principal inputs are 32 bit coincident event words, 10 bit wobble position data, and physiological gating information. Principal outputs are list mode data buffers and parallel beam sinograms. Functions pertinent to PET include virtual field-of-view (FOV) control, sinogram availability during an acquisition, 1 microsecond coincident event histogramming, and on-line arrythmic cardiac cycle rejection.
