Cytochromes c-551, c-552, c-554, cd, a c type with low ..cap alpha../..beta.. peaks, and an acidic c-type cytochrome were detected in extracts of Pseudomonas stutzeri. The first four were purified and physically characterized. Light absorption spectra indicate a probably histidine-methionine liganding of heme iron in c-551 and c-554, but an absence of methionine in the ligand of c-552 heme iron. In displaying two separately reducible c-hemes, the c-552 appears homologous with that from P. perfectomarinus. 24 references, 6 figures, 1 table.
