The effect of harmonics on the operating points of electromechanical relays

This paper is concerned with the effect of harmonics on the operating points of three types of relays. These are standard electromechanical relays of the instantaneous overcurrent, instantaneous voltage and time overcurrent types. Analytical models are derived for each type of relay. The models provide a means for predicting the operating points of the relays as a function of the harmonic distortion of the operating current or voltage.
