Transport of light-ion beams in plasma channels

Conference ·
OSTI ID:5963242
Intense beams of light ions are being transported over distances of 1 to 2 meters in plasma channels in progress toward inertial confinement fusion driven by particle beams. This paper reports experimental work at Sandia Labs. where ions have propagated in wire-initiated and laser-initiated discharge channels. Particular emphasis is given to studies of laser-initiation and channel stability.
