Pooled inventory management - a real-word update
In February 1985, a relatively new concept in the nuclear electric-utility industry, a pooled-spare-parts network among multiple utilities, was presented to the AACE at the annual Mid-Winter Symposium. This presentation, entitled Project Control for the Pooled Inventory Management (PIM) Program by K. E. Bromenschenkel, T. T. Robin, and R. W. Spear explained the pooling concept, the organizational structure of PIM, the procurement process, the billing and collection system and cost-benefit justification for joining PIM. At the time of this presentation the program was just beginning to become active after approximately four years of planning, organization, and start-up. This paper reports the progress of this programs, which has evolved significantly over the past three years, to examine the events and philosophical changes that have impacted the program, and to explore future applications of a program of this nature. 1 reference, 2 figures.
