Pooled Inventory Management Service: a shared approach to spare nuclear plant equipment ownership

Journal Article · · Electr. Forum; (United States)
OSTI ID:5664470

Pooled Inventory Management Service (PIMS) was developed by General Electric Company to allow nuclear facilities with long lead times to share equipment with operating utility plants in need of a component. The shared inventory, in which spare assemblies are kept in a central warehouse, improves availability and capacity. Low program cost and the selection of high-cost equipment for sharing were the two criteria met by PIMS developers. Four parties (the electric utility, the inventory ownership company, the Morgan Bank, and General Electric Company) participate on a contractual basis.
