To assure a peak recovery factor from their Lake Maracaibo fields, operators have invested well over $180 million in 10 gas-repressuring plants. These have a combined capacity of 2,015 MMcfd and represent over 600,000 hp. Latest addition is Menegas I, a 45 MMcfd plant installed by Mene Grande Oil Co. in the Ceuta field. Engineered and built by Brown and Root, the plant was completely prefabricated and tested in Houston, loaded on a barge, and towed 2,000 miles across the Caribbean Sea to its final destination atop a platform in Lake Maracaibo. Menegas is believed to be the largest plant of its kind ever completely prefabricated for reassembly at a distant site. It consists of 9 modules, one for each of the following components: 5 gas compressors, an alternator, an air compressor, a gas scrubber, and a control center.
