A review is presented of the science issues in the 1983-84 legislative term of the Georgia General Assembly. Of particular interest is a bill (House Bill 1308) which would grant immunity from liability to persons offering assistance at hazardous material accident sites. Although this bill passed the House, it was tabled by the Senate. It is likely that similar legislation will be introduced in the 1985-session. During the interim, legislators will be studying the regulation of hazardous materials. House Resolution 522 created the Hazardous Waste Materials Response Team Study Committee and H.R. 523 created the Hazardous Materials in the Workplace Study Committee. A significant piece of energy legislation was passed in the 1984-session. House Bill 1242 authorizes a tax credit of up to $1000 for the purchase of solar heating equipment.
