Technique for determining the parameters of an active medium in flow-through electric discharge CO/sub 2/ lasers from the absorption and emission at the centers of the 00/sup 0/1-00/sup 0/0 and 10/sup 0/1-00/sup 0/0 bands of CO/sub 2/ Molecules

The authors develop methods for determining the basic parameters of the active media of CO/sub 2/-electronic discharge lasers (EDL) from experimental data obtained from the Svirel' apparatus, required for estimating the efficiency of active pumping systems. They present charts with data on the absorption spectra of CO/sub 2/ with nitrogen, and propose a system of equations for determining the brightness of the radiation, the absorption of the medium, the Planck function, and vibrational temperatures, and they use these calculated values to correct experimental errors.
