Cross section for stimulated emission of the CO/sub 2/ molecule from the 00/sup 0/1 to 10/sup 0/0 transition in a waveguide laser

An analytical expression was obtained for the stimulated-emission cross section sigma of the 00/sup 0/1 to 10/sup 0/0 laser transition in the CO/sub 2/ molecule in a waveguide laser. An analysis was made of the dependences of sigma on the pressure of the CO/sub 2/-N/sub 2/-He active gas mixture, on its temperature, and on the rotational quantum number J. The calculated sigma values were compared with those measured experimentally. The value of sigma was determined by investigating the values of the luminescence burnup at 4.3 ..mu.. and the laser output power at 10.6 ..mu...
