Method for measuring vibrational temperatures in CO/sub 2/ gasdynamic lasers

Journal Article · · Sov. J. Quant. Electron. (Engl. Transl.); (United States)

A method is developed for measuring the vibrational temperatures of the asymmetric vibration mode T/sub 3/ and both symmetric modes T/sub 2/ of the CO/sub 2/ molecules under gasdynamic laser resonator conditions. The method involves simultaneous measurement of the gain at the wavelength 10.6 ..mu.. and the spontaneous emission intensity in the 4.3 ..mu.. band of carbon dioxide using the vibrational--rotational band theory in the calculations. The results of measurements of the vibrational temperatures T/sub 3/ and T/sub 2/ in a supersonic stream of 0.05CO/sub 2/ + 0.05N/sub 2/ + 0.2CO + 0.7He laser active mixture are presented and the errors of the method are analyzed.
