When an unbalanced fault occurs in the ac line in the ac-dc link system, the ac voltage and current of the converters become unbalanced. If the unbalance of the converter ac voltage is large, the dc current is interrupted or does not flow. If the unbalance of the commutation voltages is small, the converter may continue to operate without commutation failure. For this analysis, the conventional method is no longer applicable. The author developed the method of system analysis with the unbalanced fault in the ac-dc link by means of the symmetrical coordinate method.
