When unbalanced fault occurs in the ac system, the dc system becomes short circuited due to the inverter commutation failure caused by the unbalanced voltage. If the unbalancing factor is small or if the commutation failure is restored immediately due to the damping action, the system continues to operate at the unbalanced condition according to the ac fundamental frequency. In such a case the system characteristics can be analyzed in which the entire system, including the dc system, is represented by the equivalent circuit and analyzed by the symmetrical coordinate method. The equivalent sequence impedance of the dc circuit is introduced and an impedance table is presented. Using this method, the system characteristics can easily be obtained by connecting this equivalent impedance to the ac sequence circuit and then by repeating the calculation.
