Independent yields from the photofission of /sup 232/Th

Fission independently yield values were determined for the nuclides /sup 82/Br, /sup 86/Nb, /sup 124/Sb, /sup 126/Sb, and /sup 136/Cs produced by photofission of /sup 232/Th with 27 MeV peak bremsstrahlung radiation. Upper limits for the independent yield values were determined for the nuclides /sup 86/Rb and /sup 134/Cs. Fission mass yield values were determined for the previously undetermined masses 125 and 127. The independent yield value for /sup 136/Cs were also determined using 11 and 15 MeV peak bremsstrahlung radiation. Various postulates of charge distribution were tested to correlate the experimental data. The UCD, ECD, MPE, and Nethaway empirical methods, all extensions of the Z/sub p/ Model, were found to give generally good agreement with the experimental values in the asymmetric fission mass region. Agreement was found to be less satisfactory in the symmetric region. A more statistical model was also correlated to the experimental values with good agreement in both regions. Pairing and shell effects were produced naturally in the statistical model calculations and showed good agreement with the experimentally determined effects. A more linear shape on the wings of the charge distribution curve was also produced in the statistical model calculations by incorporating proximity proton transfer after scission. These linear shapes have previously been observed experimentally.
