Several nitrides, including BN, A1N, VN, TiN, NbN, CrN, HfN, TaN, ZrN, and Si{sub 3}N{sub 4} were doped into R-(Fe,M)-B magnets (R = rare earths, M = Al/Co). Coercivities were 6 to 20% enhanced at small additions of 0.1 to 0.2 wt%. Remanence, maximum energy product and temperature coefficients were all improved. BN, A1N, TiN and Si{sub 3}N{sub 4} were found to be the most effective in the enhancement. It is found that the increase in sintered density and the modification in intergranular phase due to the reaction between nitrides and the Nd-rich phase are the main reasons of the improvements.
