Energy, economics, and environment: a call for balance

Conference · · Mater. Soc.; (United States)
OSTI ID:5930905
It is suggested that a workable energy policy for the U.S. would be based on the following: 1) incentives to produce more energy rather than depending on conservation; 2) reliance on the free-market system to provide energy supplies at a fair price; 3) minimizing the use of taxes, subsidies, and regulations to control choices of energy sources; 4) replacement of oil and gas with coal and nuclear power; 5) development of energy sources for the next century; and 6) finding better ways to resolve conflicts between energy production and environmental protection.
