University stops use of efficiency lamps after early burnouts

James Madison University decided that, because of early bunout and frequent replacement, use of Westinghouse energy-efficient Econowatt lamps wasn't worth the energy savings. A normal life-span of standard units is 10 years, compared to two to five years for the Econowatt. Other users also report premature burnouts. (DCK)
