Users report that it is cost-effective to retrofit lamps that still work because energy-efficient bulbs have such a fast payback that it offsets the loss of service life of the old bulbs. Examples include a 20% energy reduction at a school choosing a group relamping project that replaced incandescent with fluorescent bulbs placed in existing fixtures and a 17.5% reduction in a 52-story office building that replaced standard fluorescent with energy-efficient fluorescent lamps.
