Venezuela's oil industry is marching forward again. The reasons are a combination of factors. The most important include the Middle East crisis and a better working relationship between government and private companies operating in Venezuela. Among the activities proposed and taking place are: (1) An offshore pipeline from the mainland to the island of Aruba; (2) the conversion of a drilling tender into a floating drilling rig; (3) two petrochemical programs for the Lake Maracaibo area; (4) a new flow station built in Lake Maracaibo which will be able to handle up to 80,000 bpd; (5) Venezuela's first giant hydrodesulfurization complex in Amuay, and (6) a new seismic method (Aquapulse) being used in the Gulf of Venezuela.
