The Alameda Field is located 4 miles S. and 2 miles E. of the town of Kingman in Kingman County, Kans. Approximately 1,500 acres have yielded production from Viola-Simpson, Mississippian, and Lansing-Kansas City rocks. The majority of the Alameda Field oil is produced from the middle Ordovician Viola-Simpson rocks. The Viola dolomite and Simpson sand constitute a common reservoir in many wells in the field. Reserves in the Alameda should make for an ultimate recovery of approximately 9,000,000 bbl of oil. The geological history of the field is recapitulated by the presented series of maps. Scrutiny of the Viola-Simpson structure map reveals the present day configuration of these beds. This attitude is partially due to the field's location on a strong pre-Pennsylvanian anticlinal trend, which can be traced in the subsurface both to the NE. and SW.
