Experimental and theoretical study of condensation in multicomponent mixtures: Quarterly report No. 11, 15 August 1986-14 November 1986

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:5919469
This report covers work performed during the eleventh quarter of a multi-year program to study condensation in multi-component vapors. The program is primarily experimental, but a significant amount of theoretical work is also being performed. The experiments are studying the homogeneous nucleation and subsequent growth of mixed clusters formed during supersonic expansion of gas mixtures containing mutually condensible species. Herein we describe newly developed data analysis procedures for determining particle sizes and number densities throughout the region of the nozzle where vapor condenses rapidly. These are the first experiments capable of obtaining this information without resorting to theoretical models and approximations.
