MED-1: Minimum Energy Dwelling. Final report

The purpose of the Minimum Energy Dwelling (MED) project is to investigate energy conservation techniques, building materials, and current technologies available to today's home builders, and to assess the influence of occupant lifestyles on residential energy consumption. A summary of the project goals and results is presented. The primary elements of the MED mechanical system are the solar collector, its heat storage tank, the gas-fired boiler, the absorption unit, the air handling unit, and the economizer and they are described in Section V. A detailed look at monthly and yearly system performance is included in Section 6. Detailed information included in four appendices cover attitudes of persons touring; MED evaluation; odor and infiltration experiments; and data studies. (MCW)
