Motor efficiency can mean big savings

Motors are normally bought on first-cost considerations with little thought given to energy cost and the advantages of basing buying decisions on life-cycle cost. Recent efforts by manufacturers and NEMA to make buyers aware of the economic advantages of high-efficiency motors have resulted in tighter standards, better motors, and sophisticated computer motor-analysis programs. In some cases, an efficiency improvement of only 1% can easily be justified.
