This article discusses the protection of the natural resources and the ecological equilibrium of tropical monsoon forests in China. During the past 10 years, more than 7 million mu of the Xishuangbanna Zhou forest has been destroyed, causing destruction of the tropical monsoon rain forest ecosystem and bringing about a decline or near extinction of rare and valuable fauna and flora. A deterioration of climatic and hydrological conditions and serious erosion have also resulted. Topics considered include the characteristics of the plateau, the relationship between the tropical monsoon forest ecosystem and the growing of rubber, and the relationship between the forest ecosystem and population ecology. It is recommended that the areas most suited to the growing of rubber must be designated, the farms should be consolidated, and an economic contract system should be instituted with the proportion of all-around farming, forestry, and rubber growing operations increased.
